5th August 2012 at Exhibition Road, London SW7.

Part of ”Exhibition Road Show”, a Festival to celebrate the London Olympics (free event).

Country: Britain. Style: Jazz - Modern.

Lineup: Mike Westbrook (p), Kate Westbrook (v/tenor horn), John Winfield (v), Pete Whyman (alto sax/clarinet), Alan Wakeman (baritone sax/soprano sax), Brian Godding (g), Andy Grappy (tuba), Simon Pearson (d).

Mike Westbrook’s musical career goes right back to the 1960s, varying between small groups and big bands. To Jazz he has added elements of Music Hall, Cabaret, Popular Song and contemporary Classical Music. This project “Off Abbey Road” first performed in 1988 was his arrangements of the 1969 Beatles album. This was a fairly rare opportunity in recent years to see him with a rhythm section (albeit one with a Tuba), something which has been absent from other projects like his Duo with Kate Westbrook, Art Wolf and the Village Band.
