2nd August 2012 at the Tricycle Theatre (Theatre), London NW6.

Part of “Trinidad & Tobago Culture Fest” (free event). For the Olympic Games the Tricycle Theatre became the T & T Olympic House (one of many buildings which played this role for a competing nation). During the month the High Commission organised this Festival representing the different strands of local music.

Country: Trinidad & Tobago. Style: Calypso.

Lineup: Myron Bruce (v), Fireball [Rohan Richards] (v) plus keyboard, laptop, bass guitar and drum kit.

Myron B recently recently won a Humorous Calypso Monarch competition. I have to confess that I found his Trini accent hard to understand which meant that most of the lyrics passed me by.

During the month the High Commission organised this Festival representing the different strands of local music.

Country: Trinidad & Tobago (Norwegian resident). Style: various Trinidadian styles.

Lineup: Sleldon Blackman (v/g), Sarah Ramin Osmundsen (v), and probably Jerel Deleon (keyboard), Williams Stavik (bass g), Thomas Dulsrud (d) and percussionist.

Sleldon Blackman’s father was the late Garfield Blackman (a.k.a. Lord Shorty, Ras Shorty I), one of the founders of Soca and then the inventor of his own Gospel influenced style - Jamoo. Sheldon started out in the family band - the Love Circle. In 2008 he moved to Oslo and formed the Soul Rebels with Norwegian musicians. He describes the music as “Caribbean heart beat music” with elements of Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Rapso and Jamoo.
