Lineup: Seckou Keita (v/kora/djembe), Fanta Yayo (v), Mariama Kouyate (v), Manecas Costa (v), Nii Boye Owoo (v), Alfred “Kari” Bannerman (g), Tapha Gaye (g), Guimba Kouyate (ngoni/tama), Thomas Ola (keyboards), Michel Padron (trumpet), Dramane Dembele (flute/tama), Michel 'Pata' Salazar (bass g), Tapha N'Diongue (d), Adama Bilorou Dembele (balafon/conga/djembe), Suntou Susso (calabash/doun doun/djembe).
Seckou Keita Is from Casamance in Southern Senegal has lived in the UK since 1998. He is part of the Mandinka people, one of the largest ethnic groups in western Africa. For this gig instead of his regular quartet he was bakced by a band including musicians from eight West African countries (Senegal, Mali, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast) plus Cuba. I have previously seen two of them - Manecas Costa and Alfred Bannerman – leading their own bands.
