7th June 2012 at Kings Place (Downstairs Foyer), London N1.

Part of the “Songlines Encounters Festival” (free foyer preformances).

Country: Britain. Style: Singer Songwriter & Popular British and Polish Music.

Lineup: Katy Carr (v/ukulele), David V Miles (b/g), George Simmons (trombone).

Katy Carr is usually labelled “Alt Folk”. Without wanting to open the unproductive “what is folk” debate, it seemed to me (for this gig at least) that the material was Popular Music of the 1930s and 40s, plus songs she wrote in related styles. Both British (e.g. Gracie Fields, Al Bowlly) and Polish (her mother is from Poland) Popular Music. Done (thankfully) without irony.
