29th May 2012 at National Theatre (Djanogly Concert Pitch), London SE1.

Free Foyer Music.

Country: Columbia (British resident). Style: Latin American Folk.

Lineup: Martha Acosta (v/g/güiro/güira), Claudia Silva (soprano sax/v), Camilo Menjura (g/cuatro/charango/v), Carlos Fuentes (d/percussion).

Martha Acosta also performs Salsa with Manceta, a band formed by her and Javier Fioramonti (I have taken photos of him playing Tango here: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags//javierfioramonti/). I have also seen Acosta at the Green Note performing Mexican Ranchera and Boleros. This project ranges across the music of South America. About a third of the repertoire was from Columbia (as do three of the four band members), but other songs came from Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Mexico and Cuba. The rhythms included bambuco, cumbia, landosa, joropo, chorinho, cueca, huaino and rumba.
