21st April 2012 at Exmouth Arms, London NW1.

Cellar Upstairs Folk Club, www.cellarupstairs.org.uk/.

Country: Ireland. Style: Traditional Irish Folk.

Lineup: Jim MacFarland (v), Jerry O’Reilly (v) and guest: Bob Davenport (v).

Jerry O’Reilly is from Dublin and Jim MacFarland from Derry (he has moved back there after many years in Dublin). Both were regulars at the An Góilín Club in Dublin. Apart from a couple of songs together at the end of each set, they sang in turn. Their voices make an interesting contrast, as Jerry said one lyrical and the other declamatory. They were joined for one medley by Bob Davenport (from Gateshead but in London since the 1950s). The songs were about Irish navvies in London and included Bob’s “Wild Wild Whiskey”.
