4th May 2012 at Royal Festival Hall (Bar level 2), London SE1.

Friday Lunch (free event).

Country: Britain. Style: Jazz - vocal.
Lineup: Emily Saunders (v), John Turville (p/keyboard), Dave Whitford (b).

Emily Saunders recently studied jazz voice at Trinity Laban in London. She performs material from Brazilian writers like Hermeto Pascoal and Airto Moreira, vocalese to tunes by Hubbard and Coltrane, and her own compositions. Seeing her live I was intrigued by the continual movements of her right hand. I wasn’t sure how much this was her conducting the other band members, or just a way of highlighting the tune by tracing out the arrangement.
