Dirk Powell was born in Ohio and developed an interest in Old Time Music through an grandfather from Kentucky. He later turned to Cajun music founding Balfa Toujours and moving to Louisiana. This short set demonstrated the variety of his musical tastes - some Old Time on banjo, some Creole on accordion and some Irish music on fiddle. He was joined by four fifths of Solas (Eamon McElholm for the entire set and the others joining half way through). Finally an Irish dance performer took to the stage. This collaboration grew out of a “Song for Ireland” gig at the Festival.
