14th December 2011 at the Birkbeck Tavern, London E11.

What’s Cookin’… (free with collection), www.whatscookin.co.uk/wchome.html.

Country: Britain. Style: Bluegrass.

Lineup: Leon Hunt (banjo), Joe Hymas (mandolin/v), Jason Titley (g/v), Ben Somers (v/b) and guest: Steve Somers (v/g).

In the 1990s Leon Hunt and Jason Titley were members of the Daily Planet, a band which started Bluegrass and went off in multiple different directions. This new group unites them with Joe Hymas (of Kidnap Alice and Monroe’s Revenge amongst others) and Ben Somers (of the Wagon Tales). They began by promising an evening of “real old fashioned bluegrass” and did numbers associated with Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs and Jimmy Martin. For their encore they were joined by Ben’s father Steve - Steve and Ben had earlier filled the support slot. Leon Hunt also plays in the Scoville Units.
