2nd December 2011 at Bull’s Head, Barnes, London SW16.
Country: Britain. Style: Jazz - Modern.
Lineup: Nigel Hitchcock (alto sax), Jim Watson (p), Laurence Cottle (bass g), Clark Tracey (d).
Nigel Hitchcock started out with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (and he has gone back to work with the NYJO as a composer in recent years). Since he moved to Skye appearances in London have been rare. I have seen him there, though, in a Claire Martin Big Band, a Stan Tracey Octet and, most recently, the Folk-Rock band Peatbog Faeries. On visits to Glasgow I’ve seen him playing in a Folk context with the Unusual Suspects and guesting with Alyth McCormack and Old Blind Dogs. Whilst this Quartet is not a regularly working outfit I have seen its members together in various different combinations, including all three of the rhythm section playing with Claire Martin.
