Kathryn Tickell is from the North Tyne Valley in Northumberland. She emerged in the folk scene in her teens as a fine player of the fiddle and Northumbrian Smallpipes. She is now the Artistic Director of Folkworks, the folk development agency for the north east. “Northumbrian Voices” presents a picture of rural Northumbria over the years with tunes, some songs and reading from interviews she has conducted with family, neighbours and traditional musicians like Willie Taylor and Will Atkinson. Those joining her include her father Mike (of the Keelers), Hannah Rickard (member of various rockabilly, bluegrass and jazz/blues groups) and Patsy Reid (of the Usual Suspects and, formerly, Breabach).
