Hermeto Pascoal was born in 1936 in Lagoa de Conoa in Algoas in north eastern Brazil. His first instrument was the accordion, followed by the flute and the piano. In the 1960s he was part of the Sambrasa Trio and then Quarteto Novo with Airto Moreira. In the 1970s he played with Miles Davis. This concert alternated performances by his regular Brazilian band (Hermerto Pascoal e Grupo) and a Big Band made up of British musicians. The Gruipo includes his wife and son. Apart from his wife (who joined in 2002 (they have all been with him since aat least 1994, the earliest 1977). Pascoal appears in the UK every few years, so many of the Big Band will have played with him on these previous occasions.
