Timpani (plural of Timpano) are bowl shaped drums traditionally made of copper (today they can be fibreglass). They originated in military bands and are played in classical orchestras. They are struck with mailets with a felt, cork or leather head.

Timpani are assigned the number 211.11 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification of musical instruments ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbostel-Sachs ), indicating:
2 = Membranophones. Instruments where the sound is primarily produced by the vibration of a string or strings that are stretched between fixed points.
21 = Struck Membranophones. Sound is produced by hitting the drumskin with a hand or object.
211 = Directly Struck Membranophones. Instruments in which the membrane is struck directly.
211.1 = Kettle Drums. Instruments in which the body of the drum is dish- or bowl-shaped.
211.11 = Single instruments.

12th April 2013 at Royal Festival Hall (Bar level 2), London SE1.

The Nagara (or Nagada, Naqqāra and Naqarah) is a bowl shaped Indian drum (similar instruments are found in Eygpt, Iran and the Causasus).

It is often played in a pair, with the bigger one made of copper and is covered with buffalo skin to produce a deep sound, and the smaller one is made of steel and is covered with camel skin, thus producing a light sound. However, this group used a single instrument, the larger one.

Nagaras are assigned the number 211.11 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification of musical instruments ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbostel-Sachs ), indicating:
2 = Membranophones. Instruments where the sound is primarily produced by the vibration of a string or strings that are stretched between fixed points.
