Elana Fremerman, now known as Elana James, (from Kansas) and Whit Smith (from Massachusetts) met in NYC in 1994. They relocated to San Diego in 1997 where they adopted the name Hot Club of Cowtown for their trio. A final move to Austin, TX came in 1998. Jake Erwin (from Oklahoma) became their third bassist in 2000. The band broke up for a few years between 2005 and 2008.
