The Takumbo is a bamboo zither found in the Philippines. The two strings about 5 cm apart, also made of bamboo, run parallel to the length of the tube (which is about 40 cm long). Small bamboo bridges have been slipped under the strings. The body is incised all over with zig-zag patterns.
Takumbos are assigned the number 312.21 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification of musical instruments ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbostel-Sachs ), indicating:
3 = Chordophone. Instruments where the sound is primarily produced by the vibration of a string or strings that are stretched between fixed points.
31 = Simple Chordophones. Instruments which are in essence simply a string or strings and a string bearer
312 = Tube Zither. Instruments where the string bearer is a vaulted surface.
312.2 = Half-Tube Zithers. The strings are stretched along the convex surface of a gutter.
312.21 = Idiochord half-tube zithers.

The Guqin (sometimes shortened to Qin) is a 7 string Chinese zither. It is made from two boards about 125 cm by 20 cm which are joined together, creating a sound box running most of its length. The traditional silk strings are these days replaced by nylon. The Guqin differs from another Chinese zither the Guzheng in not having bridges.
Guqins are assigned the number 312.22 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification of musical instruments ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbostel-Sachs ), indicating:
