A shot from over 2 years ago, during my time as a tractor driver in Australia's eastern grain-belt. With the nearest town being 30 miles away and there being very little else in the area, the sky was amazingly clear. It was the only time I have felt I could distinguish colour and form to the Milky Way; not just a fuzzy bright stripe across the sky.
The shot is about as forced as I can go with the 50d and Sigma 10-20mm: wide open and ISO2500. Even so, the exposure was long enough to allow some noticeable movement of the stars.
I tried this through the astrometry group but it couldn't work it out, so I've used the rather good Stellarium software to go back in time to see what the night sky looked like when and where this photo was taken and managed to identify a couple of stars.

The second day in Tolmin was, like the first, an exercise in restraining my expectations. Here I was in a beautifully mountainous part of a country I'd never visited before, taking part in an event with the headline purpose of pushing the limits of my flying, but all achievements hinged on the permission of the weather. After a sweaty afternoon practising ground-handling at the campsite, I found out as I left the much-needed shower block that in those 5 minutes it had been decided we could have the treat of an evening flight. No time for decency, or modesty, as I scrambled across the campsite donning what clothes I could and gathering my gear together, lest I miss the bus to the Kobala launch.
Almost an hour later, I was cruising through the smooth evening air, soaking up the view along the Soča valley. Here, I'm circling with some of the other participants of the FlyFurther event, eeking out what height we could from the last, fading thermals of the day, clinging on to our aerial viewpoint for every precious minute that the valley would allow us to.

A perfectly-formed double rainbow wraps around the Bass, Inverurie.
Sitting on the confluence of the Urie and Don, the Bass of Inverurie comprises two large mounds which, in the 1100's, were a Motte and Bailey. The bailey, above, still stands 16m above the surrounding graveyard.

Just a grab shot out the car window, since my oohing and aahing at all the scenery had caused Pam to stop enough times already. I think this was just down the road from Arivruaich.
Originally titled Epic Sky(e), until I remembered I was on Lewis.
For the record, this is real, there were two rainbows and the funky bits below the main one. All I've done is remove dust and my usual brighten/contrast mix.

I'm getting no time to process photos so here's the colour version of my most popular photo, to date. I don't usually notice much of a difference, but this seems to have lost a lot of saturation/contrast during conversion for the web :(
This was taken whilst out with Tayne. The exposure is 1358 seconds in case you're wondering.
