Deep in a parcel of Weyerhaeuser land in southwest Washington is this thunderous waterfall. Getting here requires purchasing an overpriced permit and trudging 5 miles up a logging road, then scrambling down a steep slope. The trees have been preserved immediately around the creek bed; imagine what it must have been like to walk through miles of old growth to get here.

It was a completely still tide pool but with some fortune the rising waves just crest over the edge as I was set to shoot adding a few bubble streaks.

This is one of the best and least known spots in NZ. Almost no one goes here because you have to cross private land to get to it or take a more tretcherous hike along the coast and get cut off by tides.

The waters of Kanarra Creek are temporarily parted into twin falls before rejoining to continue the journey through the narrow, twisting passage of stone, Kanarra Canyon, Utah.

To get to this vantage required some climbing to negotiate several pools and narrow places where the water coursed deeper than my waist. My wife and son decided it was not worth the risk of getting even wetter, while I trusted my foot placement and risked damage to the camera to see what lay around the next turn in the creek. When I arrived here, I was greeted by this lovely pair of falls that are perhaps 7 feet in height. I could see no safe way to climb past them that would not prove unacceptably slippery and wet, so I retreated a few paces to make this photograph before turning to retrace my steps. These silvery gatekeepers would not so idly give up the secrets of their origin.
