This is the second Still Life shot in my new exploration of the genre after more than 40 years of not shooting a single one.
It is by no means the last one that I will do as I have recently moved to New Mexico from California and winter is fast approaching, along with its frigid temperatures. I believe that indoor photography is going to be just the thing! That and the fact that I love shooting Still Life!
Single exposure using single soft box-encased quartz modeling light on my Ascor QC1000 studio strobe setup, with supplemental white card reflectors on camera right to provide slight fill light and to add highlight on right of copper vessel.
Light placement: Camera Left, high above and behind table as backlighting.
Olympus E-30 camera mounted with Zuiko 35mm f3.5 Macro lens. 1/2sec. f11, ISO 100.
Processed using Adobe Photoshop CS5, and FastStone editor.

Today I received a new (well, used but new to me) crochet dresser scarf, and I found the pewter pitcher I bought in Quartzite, AZ and put under the seat in my truck! Cause for a celebration! Here it is, then!

View from Hwy 395 South, Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Mono Lake is an extremely saline lake in the California desert. It forms large, standing, chemical towers called "tuffa" through the process of evaporation of the lake's meager water in the dry air. The lake is host to over 2 million migratory birds during various seasons of the year; owing to its rich algae bloom which feeds trillions of brine shrimp and alkali-loving flies, which provide a rich source of food for the birds.
I have been traveling for close to two months now in a travel trailer - primarily visiting with family and friends in California. Haven't had much time for photography but when I saw this, I had to stop and capture it. The time of day could not have been better to capture the grandeur of this view.
Canon 5D MkII camera with Canon EF 17-40mm f4 L USM Superwide Lens. Exposure - 1/250th/Sec @ f11 100ISO. 5 single-shot panorama. Focal length for these shots was 20mm.
Processed using FastStone Editor/Viewer, Dynamic Photo HDR, Adobe Camera Raw 6, Photoshop CS5, and Topaz Re-mask 3.

Still working with many of the ingredients of my Pompano still life, and still being quite intrigued with shooting images of garlic, I did this image today.
This photo taken with the Canon 5D Mk II using the Canon 50mm f2.5 Macro lens, 1/2 sec. @ f16. Lighting: Ascor QC1000 Studio Stobe system using diffused quartz modeling lights, 1 head at 400watts in with soft diffuser, upper left side slightly to the front but primarily side lit, and at camera right and to the side of the subject, a large white foam-core board to provide bounce light to soften shadows.
Processed using Camera Raw, Photoshop CS5, Topaz ReMask3, Topaz Adjust 5, and FastStone Editor.

Today I shot the sunset over the Rio Grande River as it runs its course through the heart of Albuquerque. This is the river that the Spanish Conquistadores followed up into Colorado when they first came up from Mexico searching for El Dorado! Though they never found it, they did bring with them the horse, foreign diseases, their religion, and slavery of the indigenous people.
Some would say, they brought civilization to the area and, in a manner of speaking, they did. The oldest settled and continually occupied city in the US is Santa Fe - right along the Rio Grande!
