No photoshop mcgillicutty here, straight out of the camera.

Guiltiness
Pressed on their conscience.
And they live their lives
On false pretense everyday
each and everyday

These are the big fish
Who always try to eat down the small fish,
just the small fish.
I tell you what: they would do anything
To materialize their every wish.

The immortal words of Bob Marley

I still cannot believe that prop. 8 (anti-gay marriage) passed here in California. California of all places! What's the big deal people? How does this even affect you? You close minded, homophobic, selfish, unable to think for yourself, drinking the party Kool Aid dillweeds. Were these people thinking "Ooh, this may be our last chance to take away someone's civil rights!"? What happened to separation of church and state? They're not hurting you, relax guy.
Maybe we should ban all marriage and stop the discrimination against single people!

Massive waves pummel the cliffs at Lands End, Cornwall, England, UK, March 2008
Canon 5D, 70-200 f4L, 1.4xII, f8 1/640th ISO 400 (fast shutter was to stop camera shke, not to capture the scene)

***When the weatherman tells you to stay away from the coast, you just go.

Well as the winter weather comes in, I am seroiusly hoping for a repeat performance of these one-in-a-million conditions. The image stand as a personal testimony of believing in my own instincts. Here's why....

I was shooting crashing waves at Porthleven (another great spot for winter storms) on the same afternoon, but things just weren't working out as I had hoped. It was messy and chaotic. All the time, I kept telling myself to go to Lands End, but it was a good 3/4hour drive and the day was nearly ending. I had a good idea what would be in store for me, but absolutely no idea of the monumental size of the explosions.

I staggered from the car in 85mph winds, being 'blown off my feet' like my Gran would often say when going to the shops. I fell over three times in the end, laughing and laughing, blasted with seaspray.

The little tower on the top of the cliff top is an old coastguard lookout. It stands at 155ft above sea level. The impact is therefore round about 200ft high.

The reason why? Waves are pushed upwards by the sand level which rises the closer to the beach you are. This set of cliffs is very unusual as the water is still over 60ft deep. The massive waves collide with the cliff face without this lifting effect and hit the cliff square on, at full impact, resulting in some of the most spectacular conditions I have ever seen.

This image was taken in the last ten minutes of available side lighting; it was utter relief, that my decision had worked. Getting storms with good light is somewhat unlikely, as its usually grey and very forboding.

You have never heard so many expletives leave my mouth is such a short time, along with lots of air punching and hysterical laughing. It was a brilliant moment in my life and certainly the most phenomenal photographic experience I have had to date.

How did I keep the 5D dry? I put an Asda bag over the top of it, attached with rubber bands!

***Have a look at this mobile phone video to see the action from the lookout... it was literally the same time I was shooting it.

Anyway I do hope you enjoy this image as much as I do. Thanks for any comments in advance. The resonse to my last images has been very welcoming.
