1500 light years away, the Orion Nebula is the middle ‘star’ in the handle of the pot (constellation of Orion). It is the birthplace of many new stars.

During a work visit I was lucky enough to find myself in Mudgee NSW, which has an observatory open most nights. Even luckier still, they have a Takahashi f3.4 astrograph with automatic tracking, and Canon mount. I cheekily enquired about attaching my camera, got my wish, and this is the result.

Canon 7D, takahashi astrograph, ISO1600, 182 seconds exposure.
