This is a replica of the East Indiaman "Amsterdam".

The Amsteram was built in 1748. It was a ship of the Dutch East India Company, better known by its initials VOC. The Amsterdam left for a voyage to Asia a year later. Shortly after departure, the ship was wrecked off the English coast near Hastings. And it is still there.

This replica was built between 1985 and 1990 in the city of Amsterdam and given a berth at the National Maritime Museum in 1991. This museum is now closed for maintenance, so it now has a temporary haven at the jetty of science center "Nemo".
