Last weekend I went out with Brent and Chris to shoot a talented young model in a derelict building in Sydney's South. It's right up there with Sydney's famous train shed in Glebe and very worthwhile to be checked out. More and more photographers flock in there and whilst we shot Sarah Jane in one room, there was another model shooting going on in the other room.

I'm not great at post-processing this type of stuff, but I did my best and a lot of work went into this one.

• Tonal Contrasting
• Cross Processing
• Skin Smoothing
• Some dodging/burning
• Vignetting

This was a challenging shot from the other morning:
Behind me was an intensely orange sodium light which played havoc with my camera white balance.
In camera raw, I had to fix the white balance, it was almost off the scale. However then the sky looked completely fake - dark blue.
So I decided to layer blend two shots, one for the ground with adjusted white balance and one for the sky with WB as shot.

I added a slight vignette via Nik's Darken/Lighten Center and an S-curve to bring out the detail in the bottom of the pool.

Still jetlagged from my flight back from Europe, I was wide awake this morning at 4am. One look out of the window showed some promising wispy clouds. 30 minutes later at Mahon Pool, North of Maroubra beach, I was waiting for sunrise.
Those funky sodium lights can really mess up with your white balance. I used a cloudy setting and corrected the rest in Camera Raw later.

The sunrise was incredible, not so much because of the clouds but more because of the intense red glow along the horizon.

This shot has been made of 3 exposures and then merged to HDR using Photomatix. I use very subtle settings, so that the end result looks real but with slightly increased dynamic range compared to a single exposure.

I will soon offer workshops at this location, so be sure to check www.kajophotography.com if you're interested

When you take so many images like I did in Antarctica, you have years of material to process. Even though it's more than 1.5 years ago that I went South of the Antarctic Circle, I feel like I only processed half of my images so far.

This moody scene captures some of the tempers of Antarctica, it can change from this to bright blue skies in a matter of minutes.

This is a 13 image stitch, I used a 3-stop Lee split graduate filter to enhance the mood of the sky. Other than that it's straight from camera with some raw processing.

Yesterday morning we made our way through the dark to an unknown and unexplored location in Sydney's South. Armed with torches and GPS we had no trouble (with a few exceptions :)) to find this spot in the pitch black.

Taken with a 10 stop ND filter to enhance the reflections on the water and the overall mood. 2 minute exposure. Too bad the sky was very bland, so I tried to cut it out as much as possible. The orange sun light of the sunrise drenched this rock face in an incredible shade of red.
