Some of my Bando de Kvar colleagues have been posting images of old cameras from their ‘stash’, although not on Flickr. Here is my latest submission to that exercise. Anyway, so you thought Detroit was only known for cars, well perhaps somewhat less so in more recent times. But also in Detroit, Michigan, the Detrola company got into the camera business producing a range of models over a relatively short period, supplementing a range of radios and record players. But these camera models really could be described as being of two types: bakelite 127 film models featuring a number of different lenses and shutters, and a 35mm Leica clone. Shown here is my Model B bakelite wonder. Sporting a Duo Micro-Flex 1:7.9 (1:7.9 to 22) fixed-focus lense mounted in a self-cocking shutter sporting speeds of Instant, Bulb and Time all set in a collapsible lense barrel, it also offered the proud owner an extinction light meter and half-frame 27 images. All this was wrapped in an only-a-mother-could-love-it art deco body design. But it is a bit of vintage eye-candy for the display case. - JW
