The Longfellow Bridge at dusk. This bridge connects Cambridge and Boston, which are separated by the Charles River. Car traffic shares the bridge with the Red Line subway, the "T".

This is a panorama shot at 50mm, and the long exposure effect is artificial blur added in processing.

I was interested in the mechanics of Flickr's Interestingness and Explore and how photographers can leverage these tools for growth, so I decided to do some research. I spoke with Flickr Product Manager
Cynthia Johanson, I scoured the interwebs for information and found Kevin Dooley's insightful set of essays, and I interviewed one of the best wildlife photographers in the world, Hennie van Heerdan. The result is an article that I compiled for MIT Entrepreneurship Review; follow the link to check it out: Sparking a Photography Career. I would be thrilled to know your feedback!

This shot is an aperture stack... the cable was shot at f/6.3, the background was shot at f/2.2, and the two were manually blended. I previously called it a focus stack, but, strictly speaking, that would entail different focus distances. I focused on the same point and adjusted the aperture to maintain the bokeh along with the highly defined subject.

Shooting the Vendome firefighters' memorial in Boston gave me even more respect for firemen. Several of the men that died in this fire were off-duty and came in early after hearing about the blaze on the Red Sox broadcast.

I believe the 33 represents Engine 33, which was the first truck to arrive at the burning hotel.

From Wikipedia:

The Hotel Vendome fire was the worst firefighting tragedy in Boston history. 9 firefighters were killed when part of the building collapsed, June 17, 1972.
