Patrick Dougherty est un artiste américain du courant land art. Conjuguant ses talents de charpentier avec son amour de la nature, Patrick Dougherty a d’abord approfondi sa connaissance des techniques primitives de construction et a alors expérimenté l’utilisation de jeunes arbres comme matériau de prédilection. Son travail évoluera rapidement d’une pièce unique rudimentaire à des installations atteignant des échelles monumentales. Au cours des trente dernières années, il a ainsi réalisé plus de 275 sculptures végétales éphémères, et est aujourd’hui internationalement reconnu. Ses installations sont visibles dans le monde entier: de l’Écosse au Japon, en passant par Bruxelles, et partout aux États-Unis.
Patrick Dougherty is an american land artist. Combining his carpentry skills with his love of nature, Patrick Dougherty began to learn more about primitive techniques of building and to experiment with tree saplings as construction material. His work quickly evolved from single pieces on conventional pedestals to monumental scale environmental works, which required saplings by the truckloads. Over the last thirty years, he has built over 275 of these site-specific, temporary works, and become internationally acclaimed. His sculpture has been seen worldwide—from Scotland to Japan to Brussels, and all over the United States.
