Exactly on time at 07:30 this morning, Amtrak Train No. 1105, the westbound Winter Park Express, is making its last seasonal run from Denver to the ski resort at Winter Park, Colorado. It is also conductor Brad Swartzwelter's last run on the WPE before his retirement later this year. Brad has been very popular on the WPE and CZ for years. Nearly half of this train is filled with Brad's family, co-workers, and friends riding with him on this last day. This morning, a sizable rock slide blocked UP's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision at mile 44 between Rollins and Tolland, Colorado, ahead of Amtrak No. 5, the westbound CZ, and No. 1105, the westbound Winter Park Express. It's a gloomy day for Amtrak west of Denver. This morning, a sizable rock slide blocked UP's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision at mile 44 between Rollins and Tolland, Colorado, ahead of Amtrak No. 5, the westbound CZ, and No. 1105, the westbound Winter Park Express. CPKC leaders led twice in 24 hours. On March 27, 2024, KCS 4817 and 4815 led an eastbound BNSF manifest at this same spot (photo posted earlier).
