I had seen many such small stands of Aspen trees while in CO. & NM. Most of the time I had traffic behind me and no place to pull over. However I have been know to find a place to turn around and go back to many places, but when you get there...whatever you first saw at 60 MPH never seems to look as good when yo go back.

So when travelling to the south rim of the Black Canyons of the Gunnison, I came across this set of trees in early morning light with "no" traffic behind me...so over to the side of the road I went.

Of course these trees would have been more photogenic had they been in full fall color, but fall was not here yet.

I had heard of this falls and thought I would make a side trip to see it. I was moving locations from the south rim of the Black Canyons of Colorado to the other side (North Rim).I was also needing supplies and had to drive into town...so it was a good plan. I just realize just how far Telluride was.

After finally arriving at the end of the dirt road just past the town of Telluride,Co. I could see the fall, but it was a pretty good distance away and there was this house built right next to the fall...right on the edge of the mountain. I had noticed some 4WD vehicle going up somewhere?? and asked one of the people coming back down what I could expect to see if I decided to drive up. They said it was a good road but narrow.

Well, still having thoughts of nearly loosing my truck over the side of the mountain trying to get to Crystal Mill, I thought well... I came this far...Off I go and narrow it was. The several turns where so sharp that I had to back up 3 times to get around each of the several bends, but I made it there safe and sound.

While I was there photographing this very old WW2 military jeep/open back troop carrier type truck was bouncing its way up. The seats were wooden planks down each side and those poor tourist must have had sore asses on that tour.

I took the liberty of removing parts of that house that was screwing up my image...just didn't seem right to me.

This was on my way to Telluride CO. to shoot Bridal Vail Falls. As you can see by the dark clouds that its raining...in fact, it was raining when I made this. I hate using umbrellas...looks stupid. Besides, ya need three arms and hands and I'm one of those short. Must have lost it somewhere along the way.

Well, guess I'm just like the US Mail, neither Rain,Sleet nor Snow shall stop me from photography. I would have liked a little more light and a little less highway traffic blowing pavement water all over me while making this, but ya can't have anything these days.

After leaving the town of Telluride,Co. late in the afternoon, I could not make the campground before dark at the north rim of the Black Canyons of the Gunnison NP. So I backed into a side dirt road and spent the night.

I got up bright and early the next morning, skipping the time needed to setup for making my morning coffee, and headed the next 30 miles or so to the park. On the way in I spotted this female mule deer and her youngster out in the middle of this field.

I stopped and hung the tele-lens on the truck window and turned off the motor and yelled at them. Junior here was eyeballing me, but mom must have seen something else. I thought the yellow and blue flowers added a nice touch to this.

I have had this image on my desktop for the last few days and thought some of you birders out there would know them.

This was in Colorado near Gunnison. I was shooting the bird on the left when the mate came in and landed on the fence post...so I got the pair.
