My cousin told me about this place last year, but I didn't make it then. This guy bought a 40 acre parcel of land that has a small creek running through it. They built a 6 ft. high dam across it to back the water up into a pond. Then came in and added hugh boulders making a great waterfall. They built their house on concrete pilings across the downstream side of the stream and dam. It was very hard to photograph this because of the amount of trees they left in place. That was not enough for them, so they bought up some very old log cabins and a grits mill and had them rebuilt on their property. They even had lots of goodies seen here for people to enjoy and showing the period of time of over a hundred years ago.

The grits mill is an actual working mill.

Once again, when traveling the rural backroads of America I don't always know exactly where I'm at, that is unless my next stop is a given. Then I trust my GPS and Rand Mc. Nally maps to figure out where I need to go.

I often wonder aimlessly taking any road that looks like it may have potential for old barns, cabins ets. I found this old barnyard with several weathered wooden structures and lots of stuff scattered everywhere on the ground. That alone makes shooting difficult at times trying to remove clutter from the compositions. There were lots of very colorful chickens running around here and there. After shooting for about 20 minutes or so, the old farmer came out and wanted to know what I was shooting. I showed him some of the images on the back of my camera and he was totally blown away...not at my images themselves but rather the fact that he could see them on the camera. I guess the digital world had not caught up with him as yet.

We talked for about an hour... while I was shooting here and there.....a very pleasant gentleman.
