The original of this image was made in color. I converted to B&W and then applied a slight sepia tone.

Although this image was not made inside the RMNP, I had seen this scene before snow on one of the short cuts on my way up to the park. One morning during a light snow, I decide to take my short cut on my way up to the park. The snow on the ground made all the difference in this simple image.

This little Mountain Chipmunk stayed around my campsite for the entire week. Occasionally there would be two of them, but always one would be there whenever I went out the door.

Elk are found nearly everywhere throughout the park. I had favorite areas that I could always rely on and seldom never saw at least one large Bull. Elk move into the higher elevations of the park during the summer months and begin their slow decent into the many valleys and parks during early fall. The mature breeding bulls begin to select their harem early in the rut and will defend them again other bulls trying to steal them away for themselves.
This is not only a grand site to visually see but also to hear the big bulls bugling to announce their presence. The bugling continues all through the night. "No wonder they sleep all day".
I loved camping in Moraine Park campgrounds during the rutting season with the sounds of the bulls bugling and the coyotes howling.....that was music to my ears.
