On my last photo adventure to the Big Cypress National Park, the loop Road was high on list of place to go to since I haven't been there in many mango seasons. On the second morning I went to the east entrance to the loop. Wow, has that area been developed. Well, once down the road past all of the homes I began seeing quite a few BCNH. If you can catch them in the right lighting these are beautiful birds.

Once again, my images are only licensed for reproduction and web use by directly contacting me. Please do not use them yourself or through any other organization without my expressed written permission.

I'm standing about 10ft. away from my camper braced against a tree for this late afternoon shot of these two does that walked up about 20 yards away.

This is one of my favorite sites to camp at as it buts right up to the woods. This last trip we had 2 hen turkeys walk within 25 ft...several wild hogs and one little one (black & white) that showed up everyday and 4 to 6 does some of which were first year yearlings also show up every afternoon.

Red Shoulder hawks have sat in the oak trees within 15 ft. above the camper on numerous occasions and turkey vultures everywhere, especially to roost in the trees at night. There is a pair of Barred Owls that are nearby almost every night... sometimes I call them in real close just to watch them and listen to their various calls.

This state park is a real Mecca for nature and wildlife photographers as wells as beautiful landscapes that resemble what Florida must have looked like 500 years ago.

And BTW, if you like a bit of humor of the things that have happened to me over the years on some of my photo adventures, try reading some of the stories in my Blog. I've just added the last two adventures that happened many years ago. Just waiting for the next humorous adventure to arrive.
I'm sure there must have been a couple of events that happened out of the ordinarily while some other photo adventures, but trying to remember back. 15 years now is a real task. But when I do I will write them up and post to my Blog.

On a pontoon river boat tour of this famous river ( the movie The Yearling was shot here)I found several groups of monkeys. These were originally part of the Silver Springs animal exhibits that jumped ship....literally and swam and fled into the surrounding jungles. It was originally thought that the monkeys would never swim off their island...Wrong! That had done that back into the early 50's when I went there in our boat back when I was 15.
They do make great subjects when in these surroundings and not caged and really are inquisitive and put on a show.

This 5 image panorama will give you only a slight clue as to the size of these sand dunes. If you look at The Google Maps these dunes are nearly 8 miles square. They wrap around the Sangre de Cristo mountains on the right. This image was made from the south side looking north. So from what you see here, the dunes are nearly as long behind this view.

The twin peaked dunes to the left of center is approximately 8925 ft. above sea level and 750 ft above the valley floor making them the tallest dunes peaks in the park.

The vastness of the valley floor gives a sense of something magical happening with the ever developing and shaping of these dunes by the wind and rain. This valley between the mountains ranges on the east and west is approximately 55 miles wide and nearly 160 miles long from north to south, where these two mountain ranges nearly come together at Sante Fe New Mexico. I just love Google maps...so neat to see from above what you have driven over.

I have yet to stitch together a 48 image of these dunes made with the telephoto lens to see all of the great details of these dunes. I'm not sure my computer can handle that many stitched images...it will be one hell-of-a-file size for sure.
Press "L" on your wide screens for better detail of this image.

After shooting the Banyan trees on Banyan Street MJ and I headed to the Boca Grande Lighthouse. There was an approaching storm from coming in from the east and this was exactly what I was hoping for...the sunset colors in the western sky casting those colors onto those white puffy storm clouds. While standing on the wooden walkway over the sand dunes and looking back at the LH the light in the turret suddenly came on and now....click!
