They probably just don't get any uglier than this "CUTE" pair of Yellow Crown Night Heron Chicks. This image was made with a Canon macro lens and Metz 54MZ flash head in a LumiQuest soft box from about 2 feet. I could only assume by the look on the one's face that he must have thought that this giant thing was going to eat him.

This was what I used to do for years...take clients out to the river rookeries (4) to photograph courting and nesting shoreline birds of SW FL. One of the rookeries was entirely Yellow Crown Night Herons of which there were at times over 50 nests.

This was on one of my few solo shoots in which the tide was quite low and I could not get my boat in as close as I wanted, so I got out and walked through the soft mud and waited for these little guys to calm down and made a few frames and then backed off to let them get back to nest life.

If you really want to see this as "Right in Your Face" try clicking on the down arrow on the right and choose "Original".

And BTW, if you like a bit of humor of the things that have happened to me over the years on some of my photo adventures, try reading some of the stories in my Blog. I've just added the last two adventures that happened many years ago. Just waiting for the next humorous adventure to arrive.
I'm sure there must have been a couple of events that happened out of the ordinarily while some other photo adventures, but trying to remember back. 15 years now is a real task. But when I do I will write them up and post to my Blog.
