The second day of our trip to Seattle last week, we stopped into Pacific City to spend an evening and morning at Cape Kiwanda. And a stop here would not be complete without a visit to the Pelican Pub. Yum!

After lunch and setting up camp, Kendra and I scouted around the sandstone bluffs. As we headed back to camp, I mentioned how the rocky shelves to the south were a popular sunrise location with one reason being that you don't have to climb a steep hill at 5am.

And that is exactly what we did the next morning. Sleepy eyed and dragging our feet from lack of sleep, we shot the sunrise on the south side of the bluffs. This late in the year, the sun rises too far north to illuminate the bluffs directly when the best color is in the sky, so I definitely will want to revisit here (and spend more than 18 hours) in the fall or winter. There are a couple camp sites nearby and a well stocked market, so Pacific City is far from "roughing it", but hey, I'm ok with that. I love a good IPA at the end of the day!
