The canals are beautiful in the daytime, but at night-time when the lights reflect off of the rippling water, they are pure magic! I had to rest the camera on a bridge rail since I didn't bring the tripod tonite, but tomorrow, I'll be better equipped!

We sat here at an outdoor pub for our dinner and watched the sun descend onto the facades of the buildings and create colorful rippling reflections. What a beautiful city this is.

Our visit to the Kinderdijk Windmills featured typical Dutch weather, though we've been quite lucky during the trip to have sunny warm days so far. There are 17 functioning windmills here; though the real job of pumping the water out into the river is done by modern pumps, the windmills are maintained in working condition by the families that live in them. The sails are rotated ~60,000 cycles per year just to be sure that everything still works since this is a huge tourism draw in the area and a UNESCO Heritage World Site.

Our visit to Keukenhof Gardens could not have been more perfect! The weather was unseasonably warm for this early in the year (mid-60's), many bulbs are already blooming, and the color was spectacular! Our guide, who has been escorting tour groups here for 40 years, said he has not seen such lavish bloom so early in the season. The gardens are only open for 8 weeks each year; so this probably means that those who choose to visit in mid-May won't see much...

Bruges is a magical place, filled with ancient architecture, cobblestones, horse carriages clip clopping through the streets, delicious smells wafting from cafes, and..... Belgian Beer ! It is truly a perfectly preserved outdoor museum. One day is not long enough to see it all, and I hope to come back another time for an extended visit.
This lovely spot is called The Lake of Love (real name Minnewater Lake).
