It was perfectly calm morning when we stopped at the vista point close to the dam on the Snake River as it dumps into Jackson Lake. When we passed by later in the day, the wind had picked up, rippling the water, and there were no reflections. I'm glad we stopped when we did.

We don't get many interesting sunsets here because the summer evenings are usually cloudless; but we've had high humidity and billowy clouds for a couple of days, so when I saw the wispy clouds and pink sky I grabbed the camera and headed out to the Redwood City marina (about 3 miles away).

Although I had the tripod with me, the little shoe thingy that connects the camera to the tripod was in the camera bag.... back on the dining room table. I balanced the camera on a railing to take the 3 images which were tonemapped in Photomatix. The noise at ISO400 is quite high - I don't know why Canon even includes the option of going to ISO 1600 in the Digital Rebel - I'm afraid that would be really ugly...

The Large size shows more detail on the sailboats, although alas it also shows more noise...

further south Pacific Business Center at the end of Seaport Blvd in Redwood City; white salt evaporation ponds are now obsolete and slated for redevelopment by the city

Many of my Redwood City Harbor shots are taken from this strip of land between Redwood Creek and the old salt evaporation ponds.
