During our first evening at the Jackson Lake Lodge in the Tetons National Park, we dined in the Mural Room with a wall of windows overlooking the spectacular mountain range. I had to keep jumping up from the dinner table to dash out onto the veranda and capture the ever-changing sunset - just breathtaking !

When I announced that I wanted to be at Oxbow Bend before sunrise to greet the day my husband said "are you out of your effing mind?" But he got up at 6:00 am anyway after I threatened to go by myself.
What a breathtaking experience to watch the sun gradually light the peaks. By the time we left after about 45 minutes, my fingers were like blocks of ice (it was 28 degrees !) but I was exhilirated to have witnessed this iconic view of the Tetons. By then, the parking lot was full and the road lined with vehicles - but all those who arrived that late had missed the best part of the magical misty morning.
(We're going to be shopping for gloves today - I could end up with a serious case of frostbite if we continue our pre-dawn photo outings !)

I know it's the state to the north (Montana) that has adopted the slogan "Big Sky"; however one of the most impressive aspects of our time in Wyoming has been the fabulous skies. Clouds form and transform constantly in an ever-changing fascinating pattern; and if there happens to be a river or lake nearby to reflect them, it's a "stop the car" moment !
We are leaving the Jackson Lake Lodge in the Tetons today and heading into Yellowstone where there is probably limited or no internet access, so I might just have to keep my photos to myself for the next few days.... :)

We rounded a bend in Grand Tetons National Park just past the Jackson Lake Dam early one morning and came upon this spectacular reflection of the Tetons. Oooh ! Ahhhh !! Stop the Car ! Fortunately the thoughtful park planners provided a perfectly placed turnout. We passed this spot at least 2 more times later on days when the wind was rippling the surface of the lake and it did not have nearly the same impact as the reflections were non-existent. A good reminder to get the shot when you can.

This was one of our first wildlife sightings in Grand Tetons. The coyote was calmly sitting in a field near the road when we spotted him. We quickly pulled over, then suddenly many cars pulled over and photographers jumped out. I think part of the excitement was that some people thought it was a wolf. Wolves were re-introduced in Yellowstone in 1995, and the population has grown to ~100, though I don't know if any have found their way to Grand Tetons National Park. Although the coyote glanced in our direction from time to time, he seemed unconcerned about the traffic jam that he had caused, and proceeded to hunt for his lunch.
I had my 300mm lens ready, but sure wished for a 400mm !
