A brief break from the Newfoundland images.

I spent last week volunteering at the Mugaha Marsh bird banding station just north of Mackenzie, BC. Banding would start at sun-up, but the nets would be closed for the day around noon leaving the afternoon and evening for other activities - like more birding! On a couple of the afternoons we headed up Morfee Mountain on the road (one of the few area roads that gets you above the treeline into the alpine) to look for some of the species unique to the alpine habitat.

On this particular day we found an adult female White-tailed Ptarmigan with a pair of large juveniles (~75% of the size of momma). On several past occasions I have observed Willow Ptarmigan in the area, but this was the first time I had come upon White-tailed Ptarmigan on the mountain.
