This fine looking fellow was grazing on berries alongside the road as we drove to Moraine Lake last week in Banff National Park.
Although grizzlies are capable of terrorizing humans, they are also capable of coexisting with man. This guy looked up briefly as a car passed us while we were photographing him from inside our rental car, but he never made any threatening moves toward us even though we were less than 10 feet away.
I was reading up on grizzlies after this encounter and found this very interesting statistic from the National Park Service in the USA - three times as many people are injured or killed by bison attacks as by grizzlies in the National Park system.
They definitely can be dangerous when startled or if they get separated from their cubs, but they are - for the most part - more interested in getting enough berries in their stomachs before they hibernate.
Being so close to one made me rethink the position that they are all mankillers just waiting for a human to show up so they can attack....which I can now say positively is not true.

This was taken from atop the Rockpile Trail at Moraine Lake, Canada.....in Banff National Park.
The turquoise shade of the water is exactly as it appears in real life since the color is a result of glacial melting and silt - sometimes called glacial flour - that feeds the lake.
I'm headed back to the Tetons to host another photo tour this week so I'll be away from Flickr for awhile.
Stay well my friends.....

I found this scene fascinating....and probably unchanged for millions of years.
This is the northern shoreline of Bow Lake in Banff National Park. The turquoise water you see is that particular blue shade because of the glacial silt (sometimes referred to as glacial flour) that is released as the glacier above the lake melts....

The Crowfoot Glacier above Bow Lake as seen from the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada....
I recently purchased a Korean (Samyang 14mm f/2.8) wide angle lens to use with my Nikon D700 full frame camera and this is one of the first shots with it. I was a bit wary about the lens because it was so darn inexpensive, but I have been pleased with the results so far. It costs under $500 and is sold under the Bower label in the USA.
