The United Steelworkers Building in Pittsburgh is a building that lends itself beautifully to abstract photography like this. The aluminum skeleton reflects light in such different ways, depending on the time of day and where you're standing as a photographer.

While this image might seem like some sort of CG tessellation, it's simply a tightly cropped photo converted to black and white.

Yeah, this is a view that has been photographed a million times already. But there's a reason for that, of course: it's quite a view. The bridge you see running across the middle of the image is Ponte Sant'Angelo, and appropriately enough it leads to Castel Sant'Angelo (off the picture to the right). Of course the big old building with the dome is St. Peter's Basilica, the largest Christian basilica out there. If these buildings impress us now, imagine what it must have been like a few hundred years back. Crazy stuff.

The tessellation here reminds me of scales on a fish or a snake. Anyway, this is looking up at one of the newer towers in Shanghai's CBD.

The Broad Art Museum is part of the MSU campus in East Lansing, Michigan. I liked the museum overall: small and manageable but still really interesting exhibitions. I liked the architectural details of the building, too. Very modern for a campus that's mostly traditional. This image is of the building's exterior. It might not seem like much to look at, based on this image. But I guess I wanted to emphasize the simplicity of light and dark here. There's something about the simplicity of this image that speaks to me.

A return to black and white after last week's color upload. Pictured here are architectural elements from the Liège-Guillemins railway station in Liège, Belgium. I thought before my train pulled in that I wanted an overcast day to shoot, but I ended up liking the shadows cast throughout the station as the sun moved across sky.
