So we were in New Zealand Back in July and Damien showed me the famous lone tree on Lake Wanaka.

The shot I posted back in July is one of my favorite shots I've taken but tonight while looking through some old shot I found this one - a second shot of the tree, processed and finished but forgotten about.

I think I still prefer the original but this one is pretty cool too..

Here's the original - which one do you prefer?

Uluru sunrise.

What an amazing part of the country.

Rising from the arid plains of the desert like some kind of giant beacon, this sacred rock is perhaps the ultimate icon of this big southern land.

Seeing Uluru change several hues of terracotta and crimson as the sun rises over the tribal lands of the Pitjantjatara is truly an unforgettable experience.

In the distance (to the left of the rock under the tree) you can see the silhouette of Kata Tjuta.

The 3rd and final image from our morning expedition to the summit of Roys Peak for sunrise.

The previous 2 images have been looking outwards toward Mt Aspiring National Park whilst this panoramic shows Mt Aspiring in the left and the town of Wanaka in the bottom right corner.

A narrow and tough (especially with camera gear) trek but well worth it when the breathtaking views are presented in front of you.

Here’s my description from the previous 2 days images:

Mount Roy, Wanaka New Zealand

In one of my earlier posts I spoke about the value of the experience associated with a photo and the series (there's a few more to come) from this location are testament to this.

Damien and I had originally planned to shoot sunset from this location but made a last minute change of plans and opted for sunrise instead. What that meant was that we needed to begin the climb at 2am to make it in time for first light at 5:00am.

Hiking this trail in the dark was no easy feat, it's long and the ascent seemed to last forever.

Cold and carrying our equipment I was beginning to wonder if it was worth it. Those concerns were quickly gone. The view was simply breathtaking.

It was well below zero at the top and we were quickly freezing so together with the gusting wind concentrating on the shoot wasn't easy. None-the-less I couldn't be happier with the results.
This view looks out into Mt Aspiring National Park over Lake Wanaka.
