Indicating the possibility of injury this Semipalmated plover then darts across the ground, stops again, waves a wing, then runs off again. We were tracking a wolf we sighted at Wekweeti when this plover sought to draw us away from its chicks, probably concealed nearby, with complete success for we allowed ourselves to be led away.
Breeds in open ground across northern Canada and Alaska migrating south to coastal areas. We encountered this one beside the gravel airport runway in the Barren lands, Canada.
