First shown at the 1989 Chicago Motorshow in February then the Tokyo Motorshow in November of the same year when Honda revised the name from NS-X to simply NSX, prior to its 1990 release date. Designed by Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina as Hondas flagship model. The Honda NSX or Acura NSX (North America and Hong Kong) was built 1990-05, powered by an all aluminium 2977cc V6 engine featuring Variable Valve. The NSX was initially assembled at the purpose-built Takanezawa R D Plant in Tochigi from 1989 to early 2004, when it was moved to the Suzuka Plant for the remainder of its production life, by a dedicated crew of around 200 hand picked personnel with a minimum ten years experience
In 1997, Honda introduced the NSX's biggest performance upgrade for all of its worldwide markets. Engine displacement was increased from 3.0 L (2977cc) to 3.2 (3179cc)
In December 2001, the NSX received a facelift in order to keep the car more modern looking like its competitors. The original pop-up headlamps were replaced with fixed xenon HID headlamp units, along with slightly wider rear tyres to accommodate suspension updates.
