Hundred years after Picasso painted her in a cubist style she stepped out of the frame. She put on sunglasses to protect her eyes against the overwhelming light and studied the resemblance. Although the painted mirror strangely twisted her face, it was a close encounter with herself. She had the same Spanish austerity.
I told her that I saw the resemblance too. When I asked her to pose with the painting, she simply said: "How do you want me to stand?" Without much ado she adopted the pose. I should have asked her name, but it was the end of an exhausting day when this rare opportunity occurred. While I checked the photo and showed it to my wife, she vanished so quickly that I wondered if she had stepped back into the painting.
