Palais des Festivals et des Congrès (Palace of Festivals and Conferences), Cannes
The Palais is situated on Promenade de la Croisette overlooking the Baie de Cannes (Bay of Cannes) and Le Vieux Port (Old Port). Most famously it is the venue for the Cannes Film Festival and the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the building opened in 1982.
In response to the growing success of the Film Festival and the advent of the first business conventions, it was decided to build a new Palais in 1979 to replace the existing building further along the Promenade de la Croisette (now the location of the JW Marriott Cannes).
The new building, a six-storey building designed in the Modernist style by the architects Sir Hubert Bennett and François Druet, was constructed on the site of the municipal Casino. It opened in December 1982 and was expanded in 1999 with the construction of the Espace Riviera, a new space of 10,000 square meters.

I worked on ILTM (International Luxury Travel Market) for a number of years and we would used the Grand Auditorium for the Global Forum at the start of ILTM - the same theatre used for the Palm D’or screenings.

A wet walk to work at the Palais des Festivals along La Croisette!
Working in the events industry you get some pretty early starts. So while Cannes slept I would walk along La Croisette to the Palais des Festivals where our event was held each day at about 07.15. Despite the rain, still not a bad way to start the day, particularly as this was early December!
