Weel another year is aboot tae end
An' mony greetings we will send
Bit New Years Eve is nae the same
Things were nae aye this tame
Maist folk bocht whisky, Gin and sherry
Enough tae mak abody tipsy an' merry
The men supped export, lager or stout
Shandy or cordial for the bairns, wis a guid shout
A bowl of plain crisps for party eats
Or a party Suzy filled with savoury treats
Pickled ingins, cocktail sassages an' cheese
It did nae tak muckle back then tae please
Efter twelve an' the bells doth toll
It was time tae grab a lump o' coal
Wi' yer bottle an' yer femily in tow
It wis time tae yer neighbours door tae go
Wishin' abody a guid New Year
Toastin' each ither wi' lots o' cheer
Tae Scottish tunes we used tae jig
Abody jined in, the weans and the big
Then we wid roam fae hoose tae hoose
Folk gan hame fan they choose
The days of first fittin' hiv died oot
Bit we will still enjoy Hogmanay o' 'at 'eres nae doot!
