The Back Story on this image: I was walking through the historical district of Manila known as Intramuros. There are a lot of Spanish colonial era churches and architecture to discover and image there as well as some interesting street photography opportunities.
Like most days in most all places in the Philippines, it was hot and HUMID. I decided to cool off in a small cantina to eat some local food and have a cold drink. The place was empty aside for me and my travel companion. We ordered rice with a fried egg and a Nestea iced-tea. Inside the small space of this restaurant was a television playing a local variety, comedy show and that's where my subject came into play.
He is a neighborhood child who probably didn't have a TV in his home and he was starving for some TV entertainment. He was glued to watching this show and that was when I able to snap off some images. A family member of his caught him hanging outside the door of the restaurant and disciplined him (verbally) to get away from the TV. He would not leave so the family member pulled him away and he started crying. When the owner of the restaurant heard the boy crying and saw him being pulled away, he told the family member that it was okay with him and with the customers (me and my friend) for the boy to continue watching the show on his TV.
The family member let the boy go and as he sat back down to watch his show, I took a couple more pictures as he wiped away a tear from his right eye with his hand in a fist.
I offered him a drink. He chose a coke in a bottle. Good choice for a hot and humid day.
