The original plan was to photograph Keva covered in glitter.

This plan lasted right up until we realized the glitter we had wouldn't really work. Glitter is no joke, kids. Please consult a professional before employing glitter in your shoots.

Looking at the folder...yep, three images that have glitter. Barely even remember that part. Because once we realized it was not gonna work, we just started moving.

I've known Keva for 9 years, now, shooting with her is just catching up with a friend...a friend who is also an incredible dancer, and can move in ways I can scarcely imagine.

Which is how we got to this shot, wherein she would just kind of fling herself around repeatedly, until it looked right in my viewfinder.

A direction I am now going to internalize and use as often as possible. "Fling yourself around until it looks right. AGAIN. AGAIN."

There's a park just north of me, been going there for a good decade, at this point. Mainly because it's got EVERYTHING I need for a successful shoot. Unobscured view of the sun in the afternoon, dense foliage, and, here's the interesting bit: it's a real bastard of a time getting there. It's either a gradual incline road that's about a twenty minute walk OR a 7 minute near-vertical hike...and it's just my mood that determines which route I take.

Can the model handle the incline? Can I??

It can be worth it, no quicker way to create rapport with your subject than by huffing it up a punishing hill, both of you out of breath by the end, thankful I remembered those bottles of water, and then I get to act all exhausted and gradually recover back to my initial pose of MASTER OF PHOTOGRAPHY, and yes, thanks for asking, that "acting exhausted" usually isn't acting at all I mostly feel like I'm dying because oh god I need more cardio in my life I need more cardio in my life I am dying.

Great way to start a shoot. Bit of laughter, bit of pain, and then let's pull out the medium format camera that weighs just about the size of a small baby, why did I bring such a beast up this hill with me I knew it'd break my back and yet here's the shot.

This is why the exhaustion and the slipping down the hill.

Of course, we took the easy way for this shoot, but the theory is still sound!

What they do not tell you, and what we were shocked to discover, is that the liquid solution used to make bubbles...well, it's not water. It will leave a residue. On furniture. On carpet. On Polaroids.

It will also leave a residue on the car you've parked in front of, and have used your cheap bubble machine next to. It will leave a residue when the wind picks up the bubbles and plants them on nearby vehicles.

A visible residue, that, if you didn't know better, would seem to be caused by giant raindrops.

And if you did know better, would very obviously be caused by bubbles floating down and popping.

This photo is after all that, but before we realized what had happened...so we didn't bother waiting to see how it'd developed before making a hasty exit.

Photo turned out pretty good! And I can never go back to that neighborhood again!
