A placid briny lake, distant clouds, tufa towers, and a dash of snow all came together for this sunset at Mono Lake. The morning began with sunrise at Alabama Hills, a quick drive to Copper Top BBQ, a Disneyesque experience at the ever popular Shat's Bakery in Bishop, a walk through the cow pie-laden fields along the Owens River, then a stop for sunset here.

Skies were pretty flat this cold afternoon, so I went heavy on the contrast in this one to add some punch. Perhaps a bit more than I normally go, but after processing this one over and over it needed that punch.
On this crazy aurora night, I think i took over 300 photos, each different from the other. Once the long exposure foreground exposure was established, it was acquisition of image after image while the green glow moved across the sky. Using a 14 mm lens, the upper bands of the Northern Lights somehow left the frame.
