A group of long-tailed ducks (Clangula hyemalis) fly past icebergs that originated in Greenland and subsequently grounded in sea ice in coastal waters of the Canadian high arctic. The photo shows a group of four males (with long tail feathers) and one female (with short tail feathers).
Long-tailed ducks are medium sized sea ducks that breed in ponds in the arctic tundra as well as along sea coasts in Northern Canada and elsewhere in the northern hemisphere.

Sea ice near Bylot Island, Nunuvut, Canada. May, 2019.

Sea ice is very dynamic.
Here arctic sea ice has been uplifted and deformed by the tides and by the wind causing ice sheets to collide with one another and with the rocky coast line. This process gives rise to large areas of broken and buckled ice.
The extent and thickness of arctic sea ice is declining rapidly. Based on satellite imagery from 1981, arctic sea ice is estimated to be disappearing at a rate of about 13 % per decade.

The photo shows a male king eider (Somateria spectabilis) at the floe edge (where sea ice meets open water), near Bylot island, Nunavut, Canada.
King eiders are large sea ducks that feed in the arctic coastal waters of northeast Europe, Asia and North America. They move to the arctic tundra to breed in early summer.

The King eider in the photo (and others) were repeatedly diving and feeding on large sea urchins from the sea floor.

Photo taken 01 June 2019 at the floe edge near Bylot island, Nunavut, Canada.

A grainy photo showing an Inuit camp at night on an island in lake Tasiujaq (formerly Richmond Gulf and Lac Guillaume-Delisle), Nunavik, Canada.
Lake (lac) Tasiujaq drains several large rivers and is bordered on its west shore by steep cliffs (Hudsonian Cuestas) that are the highest in the province of Quebec.
Lake Tasiujaq is a vast brackish water lake with a narrow opening (called the Goulet) between cuestas to Hudson’s Bay. A large volume of water surges through this bottleneck and is driven by the rise and fall of the tides. The powerful flow ensures that the waters of the Goulet never freeze in winter. Lake Tasiujaq is one of the largest natural lakes in Quebec and is included in the boundaries of Tursujuq national park.

Photo taken 29 August 2018 on a kayaking expedition.
