We were birding Sanborn County Park, Santa Clara County, CA and we saw this bobcat hunting gophers. The grassy area had hundreds of gopher (vole?) mounds. Hopefully it got a good meal.

I saw this bird at Merced National Wildlife Refuge. This species is uncommon at this latitude (37.176 N)
The generic name, Pyrocephalus, translates to "fire head", or possibly, "hot head". The female does not have the brilliant red head of the male. Both are beauties in their own right.
