These little birds flit about searching for insects and bugs, always moving, making it a challenge to capture them sharply.

I followed this one and its friends for 15 minutes, finally getting a few decent captures.

I think these birds are adorable...

It's like clockwork, every April mushrooms sprout up around an old apple tree, that symbiotic relationship they have going on. For these it's as the flowers start coming out on the old tree. The valley I'm in used to be an apple orchard in the 1930s and 40s so theres only about a dozen or so left.

I have likely walked by this stump at least 20 times and never really noticed it. I wonder if you have a similar experience, because it is at the very heart of photography. To actually see and not just look. A few days ago I was trekking through Smuggler Cove on another gorgeous Spring day. "You never know till you go", I like to say, and off I went.

The light was interesting on this old stump and a story started to form. The spines left from the fallen tree appeared to be protecting a newly formed green life. The color contrast was interesting and the metaphor was too much to pass on. I worked the subject albeit the light was harsh, but this made the narrative more telling. As the new growth went in and out of the light, the notion of shielding and preservation grew with each frame shot.

It is these tiny adventures that contribute to the enjoyment of photography, and in part, what keeps me coming back.
